Three Named to Preseason All-SoCon Men’s Soccer Squad

The Elon Phoenix men’s soccer squad was represented on the preseason All-Southern Conference team by three student-athletes – junior forward Justin Wyatt, junior defender Steven Kinney and sophomore goalkeeper Clint Irwin were all named to the squad in a vote of league coaches. In the poll of the league’s coaches, the Phoenix was picked to finish fourth. The Furman Paladins were selected to repeat as league champions for the 2008 season.

Elon Sports Hall of Fame Announces Class of 2008

Elon University today announced the 38th class of its Sports Hall of Fame and will formally induct six new members – football player Quinton Ballard, baseball player Paul Braxton, head football and wrestling coach Macky Carden, president emeritus Dr. Earl Danieley, football player Randy Oxendine and women’s soccer and softball star Tracy Shuford – during its annual ceremony at 1:30 p.m. on Sept. 13 in Whitley Auditorium on the Elon campus.

Listen Live to the Football Radio Show on Wednesday

“The Elon Phoenix Football Radio Show” with Pete Lembo will kick off on Wednesday, August 27 at 7 p.m. at The Cutting Board. The remainder of the shows will occur on Thursday nights from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m. Live from The Cutting Board at 2699 Ramada Road in Burlington, the program will air on WPCM-AM 920 and on the internet at www.elonphoenix.com. Fans can listen or enjoy the show in person at The Cutting Board while feasting on a great dinner that is “grilled to perfection."

Elon Picked 5th, 7th in Preseason Cross Country Poll

The Elon University women’s cross country team has been picked to finish fifth by league coaches, it was announced by the Southern Conference office. The men’s team was picked to finish seventh in the preseason poll. Coaches were not permitted to vote for their own team in the preseason ballot. The 2008 season will begin Friday, Aug. 29 when the team travels to Wake Forest to participate in the Wake Relays.
