Game on: March Madness Wellness Tournament kicks off March 19
Faculty and staff: Live the maroon life by participating in this year's tournament. Start logging your steps March 19 through May 7.
The March Madness Wellness Tournament is all about activity, sports, exercise, conditioning with some competition thrown in. Look at your activity level now and plan how you will increase and improve your fitness level, no matter what your level currently is.
Wear a pedometer all day to count your steps and also use a conversion chart to convert your exercise activities (ex. biking, swimming, dancing or other movement activities that cannot be measured with a pedometer) into steps.
Choose a team or create one quickly before someone else beats you to it.To sign up, click here. The tournament is open only to faculty and staff.
Here is how it works
There are 5 players on a team, just like basketball. Once you have all your team members, get together and choose a team name, maybe Duke…maybe not :-) Your team could be the Carolina Rams, Carolina Heels, Carolina Class of 1998, etc.
When you sign up you will receive an email with further instructions. Email your team name to firstname.lastname@example.org and we will change the name online.
For every 10,000 steps your team accumulates they will earn 1 point. Prizes will be awarded to the first and second place team members. Not only will your team accumulate points by exercising, but there will also be team practices along the way to improve your game and score more points. Your team can choose to do any or all the practices detailed here.
Turn in your scorecard by May 4 and earn extra points.
