Don’t miss: Skin cancer lunch & learn - April 4

Join us Wednesday at noon in Moseley 217 to hear dermatologist Arin Isenstein talk about skin cancer treatment and prevention.

The event, which is sponsored by Alamance Dermatology and the Elon Faculty & Staff Wellness Office, is free and open to all Elon employees.

Besides the talk, doctors with Alamance Dermatology will also be giving free skin cancer screenings Wednesday, April 4 and Thursday, April 5 from 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Wellness Office to the first 60 people who have registered.

Elon Wellness Coordinator Cindy Novak says all the slots have been taken and there are several people on a waiting list. She said she was thrilled to see the response from Elon employees on such an important issue.

“We haven’t done a skin cancer screening before,” she says. “We had no idea it was such a hot topic.”

According to a recent study by the Mayo Clinic, in the past four decades the rate of melanoma has increased eight-fold among women and four-fold among men ages 18 through 39.

Novak says the Wellness Office is always looking for new prevention services to provide employees. She adds that they plan to offer skin cancer screenings again in the fall, when they will also be offering a new colon cancer screening program.

If you want to receive alerts for upcoming events, contact the Wellness Office at ext. 5569 or email Belinda Day at bday3@elon.edu. You can also get reminders on Facebook through the Working @Elon page.
