Geoffrey Claussen, Lori and Eric Sklut Emerging Scholar in Jewish Studies and Assistant Professor in the Department of Religious Studies, presented a paper at the annual conference of the Association of Jewish Studies on December 18 in Chicago.

Claussen’s paper, part of his current book project, explored the attitudes towards ancient Greek philosophy in the writings of one of the leaders of the 19th century Musar movement, a Jewish movement focused on the cultivation of moral character. The paper was titled “Learning Musar from ‘The Philosophers’: Simhah Zissel Ziv on Philosophy and the Good Life.”
