Deal Spotlight: Tweetsie Railroad offers fun events

Elon employees can catch a Wild West train ride or special appearances from acrobatic canines and crooning cowboys at a discounted rate.

There is plenty to do at Tweetsie Railroad in Blowing Rock this summer and fall. The best part is that tickets, which are regularly $37 for adults and $23 for children, are discounted for Elon employees. Adults can enjoy the theme park for $31 and children for $18.

Here's the lineup of events:

K-9s in Flight Frisbee Dogs: The team will jump to new heights at Tweetsie Railroad from July 20 to July 28 with nine days of flying fun. John Misita's talented group of rescue dogs will enterain with action-packed performances daily at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Special evening performances will be held at 7 p.m. on July 20 and July 27.

Riders in the Sky: The group provides an entertaining blend of Western harmony and comedy. The quartet will perform "The Cowboy Way" at noon and 3 p.m. Aug. 10 to Aug. 11. They will perform songs like "Woody's Roundup" from "Toy Story 2" as well as other favorites.

It's still a few months away, but tickets are available now for Tweetsie Railroad's Ghost Train Halloween Festival. It begins Sept. 27 and continues to Nov. 2. People of all ages can enjoy family fun at the park. Brave ghost train riders will experience frights and delights around every corner as the train howls its way through the Blue Ridge Mountains. A limited number of tickets are available each night and sell out quickly. Ordering in advance is advised.
