| More quotes about what it means to be an Elon Honors Fellow:
~ Molly Dickinson (English) What does it mean to be a first-year Honors student? It means realizing that you aren’t nearly as smart as you thought you were. It means that you will be over-worked, under-rested, and over-whelmed, but all the better for it. To be an Honors student is to be challenged. ~ Emma Stitt (International Studies) Being an honors student means helping fellow classmates, devoting time to campus organizations, and being open-minded so as to learn from others and their ideas. It also means subscribing to the belief that intellectual and social improvement must be attained with integrity and sincerity in mind. ~ Jonathan Mahlandt (Undecided) So what does it mean to be an Honors student? I think many people have this picture in their minds of Honors kids as fashionably challenged, high IQ nerds whose idea of fun is playing Trivial Pursuit. Which is totally not true, by the way. I mean, we only played Trivial Pursuit like three times this semester, and well…it wasn’t that fun. But all kidding aside, I think being an Honors student is something we all deserve to be proud of. It means that we value academic success, and we understand the importance of being intellectually curious. I just read that last sentence and it sounded incredibly schmaltzy, but I don’t care. I’ll be very proud when I graduate with honors, because very few people can say they’ve done that. Very few people even have the opportunity to go to college, let alone be an Honors student. I think I’m very lucky to be a part of this program. I’ve met incredibly smart and wonderful people who value the same things as me and who I enjoy spending time with. ~ Tayler Kent (Journalism) Being a good Honors student means that you are never bored. That’s not to say that you can’t relax, or you don’t have free time (though sadly, that is often the case); it seems means that you know you can always do better. It also means that you serve as an example to everyone who sees you. You should have standards that you take seriously, that you stick to. It doesn’t mean you have to be perfect, simply that you are a grounded and moral person who makes smart choices and can be looked on as a good person, and an exemplar student. ~ Amy Reitnouer (Communications) As a graduating Honors Fellow, I am:"More open-minded and willing to think and experience things outside my own little box." "More confident, more focused, more sure of my passions." "More professional, knowledgeable, better at networking, better able to see the big picture." | |
