Bosch appointed to Student Life dean position

Matthew Antonio Bosch, director of the Gender and LGBTQIA Center, will be taking on a new leadership role in the Division of Student Life as dean of student inclusive excellence.  The promotion was announced March 12  along with a number of changes taking place in Academic Affairs and Student Life.

Bosch will become responsible for developing and coordinating a set of programs and experiences to foster intercultural competence among students and for supporting student diversity, equity and inclusion across the university. He will supervise the directors of both the Center for Race, Ethnicity, and Diversity Education and the Gender and LGBTQIA Center (GLC).  A national search is underway to identify a new director for the GLC.

In a message to Student Life staff, Vice President for Student Life Jon Dooley praised Bosch for the “excellent transformation he has led at the university” since his arrival as the founding director of the GLC in 2013.  Bosch brings nearly 17 years of experience in higher education to his new role, including previous work as a chief diversity officer for North Hennepin Community College and administrative roles in diversity and inclusion and residence life at University of Minnesota, Macalester College and Cornell University.

Bosch earned a bachelor’s degree in linguistics from Cornell University and a master’s in higher education administration from Harvard University. He is completing a doctorate in higher education management at University of Pennsylvania. He will defend his doctoral dissertation, “Paving the Way: Advice from the Career Journeys of LGBTQ Professionals in Higher Education,” in April.

Bosch has long been active in student affairs professional associations, serving as president of the Minnesota College Personnel Association, conference co-chair for the North Carolina College Personnel Association, and member of the governing board and coordinator of state divisions for the American College Personnel Association (ACPA).  He is currently a trustee on the ACPA Foundation Board. In 2009 the Minnesota Hispanic Chamber of Commerce named him as one of 25 Latino leaders “on the rise” in the state, and in 2012 he received the distinguished service lifetime achievement award from the Minnesota College Personnel Association.
