The Department of Art at Elon University offers a chance for you to work closely with your peers and professors as you engage in the field of contemporary art. In our program, students are mentored by faculty who are active in professional art careers, and who exhibit their work and pursue projects both nationally and internationally.

The department prides itself on instructors who are committed to sharing their unique expertise in fields including painting, drawing, ceramics, intermedia, photography, and the expressive arts. Throughout each of our courses, we cultivate a transformative experience that inspires students to reach for their full potential as makers, thinkers, and global citizens. As faculty, one of our primary concerns is to instill a curiosity that extends beyond the classroom and to equip students with the necessary technical and conceptual tools to navigate an increasingly complex world.

In addition to offering a unique and rigorous curriculum, each semester the Art Department hosts visiting artists who exhibit work in our gallery and participate in active critiques with students. Opportunities for students to exhibit their work in professional exhibition settings, as well as internships and art scholarships, are also a strong component of our program.

Our department offers BFA and BA degrees in Art, as well as minors in Art, Digital Art, Photography and Expressive Arts. Our majors and minors also pair well with many programs across campus, including Communication Design, Cinema and Television Arts, Computer Science, Environmental Studies, Psychology, and Human Service Studies, among others.
