"Sexually Explicit? Re-Reading Revelation's 144,000 Male Virgins as a Response to Roman Social Discourse" by Lynn Huber, an associate professor in the Department of Religious Studies, was selected for inclusion in The Best of Journal of Men, Masculinities and Spirituality.
The volume, published in September 2010 by Gorgias Press, includes a variety of articles exploring the construction of masculinity in religious and spiritual traditions and texts. Huber’s original article appeared in the January 2008 edition of the online journal.
In the article, Huber argues for reading Revelation’s image of 144,000 male virgins as a critique of Roman expectations about marriage and family.
