Meet the CAT Mentors
Margo Buchanan (she/her)
Hi! My name is Margo Buchanan, and I’m a Senior from Raleigh, N.C., double majoring in Technical Theater and Political Science, with a minor in German Studies. On campus, I work in the Performing Arts Scene Shop and serve as the president of the German Club. Outside of school, I enjoy reading, cooking, and hiking. This is my fourth year as a CAT mentor, and I’m super excited to continue working with Elon Academy and EA scholars this semester!
Erica Matkins
Hi! My name is Erica Matkins and I am a Senior Odyssey scholar from Burlington, NC! I am currently majoring in Communication Design. On campus I work as an office assistant for Inman Admissions and I’m also apart of Elon docs. In my free time I enjoy traveling with friends, shopping and DJing! I was apart of the NU cohort at Elon Academy so I’m looking forward to work with the new scholars!
Carlos Gomez Lopez
Hello! My name is Carlos and I’m a third-year student here at Elon from Burlington, NC. I was also a part of Elon Academy as a member of the Xi Cohort, so I know especially how great the program is. I have various other roles on campus such as being a student coordinator for El Centro and being a First-Gen Mentor. In my free time I like to go on walks and spend time in nature whenever possible. Can’t wait to work with everyone and see all the great things you all will accomplish!
Jose Pahua
Hello! I am Jose Pahua, a Sophomore from Burlington, N.C, Double majoring in Computer Science and Finance. I am an Odyssey scholar and an Elon Academy scholar as well. I am also apart of La Unidad Latina Lambda Upsilon Lambda Fraternity Inc. Outside of school I enjoy to go to the gym, play soccer and enjoy to find a nice spot out in nature and read. I am super excited to work with Elon Academy, and the EA scholars!
Hannah Hanson (she/her)
Hello! I am Hannah Hanson, a Senior Secondary English Education Major. This is my second year being an Elon Academy CAT mentor, and I am so excited to return and continue building strong, meaningful connections with everyone. For the past few years at Elon, I have been working at the Curriculum Resources Center as a Library Consultant, at the Writing Center as a Consultant, and previously as an Elon 1010 Peer Educator. I love the Elon community and helping people thrive here and in life. Outside of Elon, I love to be outdoors, move my body, read, listen to music, and eat lots of delicious food. Diana Jimenez-Carreno
Hi! I am Diana Jimenez-Carreno, a Junior from Candler, NC, majoring in Public Health Studies with a double minor in Biology and Health Communication on the Pre-med track. I’m also involved with the SMART program and serve as a mentor in the First Phoenix Mentoring Program. Growing up in Asheville has given me a deep love for the outdoors—whether it’s hiking, biking, or camping, I’m happiest when I’m outside! I am excited to begin journey as a CAT Mentor with Elon Academy and and look forward to supporting and giving back to this incredible community!
Natalia Sendawy (she/her)
Hello! My name is Natalia Sendawy, a Sophomore from Bergen County, N.J., majoring in Biology with a double minor in Exercise Science and Public Health. I am an Accelerated Pathway to PA student, involved with the Sports Management Society, Club Soccer, Club Ice Hockey, and on the Board of the Diabetes Link. In my free time, I enjoy playing the guitar, listening to music, baking, and hanging out with friends. I am super excited to work with Elon Academy and EA scholars this semester!
Faith Almond
Hey everyone! My name is Faith Almond, and I am a junior from Apex, North Carolina. I am a Creative Writing major with minors in Spanish and Music. I’m an Elon College Fellow, an RA in the Colonnades neighborhood, and in Elon’s marching band! I studied abroad last January and went to Spain and Morocco, and I am going abroad for the spring and going back to Spain. Outside of school, I love to read, write, play piano, and watch movies. This is my second year as a CAT mentor and I’m super excited to see everyone!
Edward Hernandez
Hey! I’m Edward Hernandez, a second-year student at Elon, double majoring in Marketing and Business Analytics. I am from Burlington, N.C., and I even graduated from the Alamance Burlington Early College with an Associates in Science. I was also a part of the Omicron class at Elon Academy. At Elon, I am the vice president of the Latinx-Hispanic Union, an Odyssey Scholar, and a Student Coordinator for El Centro. In my free time, I love riding my bike, traveling, playing games, and spending time with my friends. I love the program and my time with Elon Academy, and I am so excited to be a CAT Mentor!
Omar Illesca Reyes
Hey! My name is Omar Illesca Reyes and I am a Sophomore from Burlington, N.C., majoring in Biomedical Engineering. I am an Odyssey Scholar and was in the Omicron class at Elon Academy! On campus, I’m involved in Elon’s Engineering Club and the engagement chair of La Unidad Latina (LUL). Outside of school, I like to go to concerts, hang out with friends, and hit up coffee shops. I can’t wait to be a CAT mentor this semester and be back with Elon Academy!
Julianna Millett (she/her)
Hi! I’m Julianna Millett, a Sophomore from Baltimore, MD., majoring in Biomedical Engineering. I am the President of The Diabetes Link at Elon and spent a lot of my life volunteering with the American Diabetes Association. This is my first time being a CAT mentor and I am so excited! In my free time, I like to spend time with friends and play the piano. I love growing beside people and can’t wait to see what this year brings!
Connor Vaughn (he/him)
Hi! I am Connor Vaughn, a sophomore from Charlotte, N.C., double majoring in History Secondary Education and Political Science. This past summer, I worked with Elon Academy’s Summer Program and I want to take this opportunity to continue building on the connections I made, as well as, providing insight into the college application process! In my free time I enjoy reading, listening to music, watching TV, playing soccer, and playing video games. I’m looking forward to seeing all of the scholars again and just being able to build on top of the relationships I’ve already formed!
Anahy Felipe de la Cruz
Hi! I’m Anahy Felipe De La Cruz, a third-year Odyssey scholar majoring in computer science and finance and part of the accelerated business 3+1 program. Besides being a CAT mentor, I am the president of the Latinx-Hispanic Union, organizing events for students within the Latinx/Hispanic community through events, an ECO-REP educating the student body about sustainable initiatives, an alternative fall-break coordinator, directing a food injustice & sustainability service trip to Asheville, and a first-gen mentor. During my free time, I enjoy conversing with my roommates, watching Grey’s Anatomy, and being in nature. I am in awe of Elon Academy and excited to assist the scholar to the best of my abilities.
Eva Real Roman
Hello! I am Eva Real Roman, a sophomore Odyssey Scholar from Ocean Isle Beach, N.C., majoring in Finance, part of the 3+1 Accelerated Dual Degree Program, and on track to earn my master’s in Business Analytics. Along with being a CAT Mentor, I am a mentor for both the Odyssey Program and the First Phoenix Mentoring Program for first-generation students. In my free time, I love to make people laugh, spend time with my friends and family, and nap! I cannot wait to start working with this amazing program and meet new faces.
