Welcome to the Freedom Scholars Program, a premier Elon University college access and civic engagement initiative. In partnership with the Teagle Foundation’s “Knowledge for Freedom” network, this free program is tailored for Alamance-Burlington high school seniors from underserved populations who want to attend college and be difference makers in their communities.

We encourage talented and emerging civic leaders to join the program each summer for a two-week, intensive residency on the Elon University campus and regular programming throughout the academic year. During that time, Freedom Scholars work collaboratively with local civic networks to deepen and shape their understanding of some of the complex challenges they must address in their battle against the barriers holding back their communities’ progress. Simultaneously, Freedom Scholars receive support from Elon mentors in navigating the college admissions process and post-high school plans.

We invite you to browse this site to learn how to become a Freedom Scholar, how undergraduate Elon students can work in the program, how community members can involve Freedom Scholars in their organization’s work, and how donors can support the program’s activities.
