Fall 2024 Volunteer Information
Volunteer with the Village Project!
Register here to volunteer with us this semester!
This Fall, the Village Project runs one night a week from 5-7 PM at each of our partner Title 1 Elementary schools in the Alamance-Burlington School District for 10 weeks, beginning the week of September 16 and ending the week of November 18. Specific days vary by location but will fall on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday nights. We will match you with a school that fits your availability and each school’s volunteer needs.
Before registering, please be sure to read our Volunteer Guide and be aware of the following information:
- By registering to volunteer with the “It Takes a Village” Project, you are committing to volunteer one night a week for the entire duration of the program in the fall semester, beginning the week of September 16 and ending the week of November 18. If you are sick, on vacation, or otherwise unable to attend for a week, you are expected to let your teacher liaison and the Village Project’s Assistant Director know ahead of time.
- The Village Project is able to provide transportation to our volunteers, if requested. If you are unable to provide your own transportation, please indicate in the registration form, and we will be able to provide a bus/shuttle for you. If you indicate that you do not need transportation, please ensure that you are able to provide your own reliable transportation, as we will not be providing you with transportation this semester.
Before You Begin Checklist
Since you will be working with vulnerable populations, we have a few requirements for our volunteers to complete before you can officially begin tutoring. Please ensure you have completed all the following before Monday, 9/16, to ensure you will be able to begin volunteering the first week:
- REGISTRATION FORM: Fill out this registration form by 9/8 to ensure you have enough time to complete the additional pre-volunteering requirements.
- PROTECTION OF MINORS TRAINING: Follow the link to self-enroll and complete this Moodle course, which includes a 6-minute long video and brief certification quiz. Email your Certificate of Completion to villageproject@elon.edu.
- BACKGROUND CHECK: Look for an email from Sterling Background Checks with further instructions.
- MANDATORY PRE-VOLUNTEERING ZOOM MEETING: Wednesday, 9/11 from 6-7 PM. All registered volunteers will receive an email with the link before the meeting.
More details on each of these requirements can be found in the Village Project Volunteer Guide.
