Letter from the BFA Coordinator
Dear Prospective Student,
We appreciate your interest in the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Art at Elon University, where faculty artists are committed to helping students achieve their highest potential. This studio-intensive degree program supports student artists who are passionate, intellectually engaged, and committed to creating artwork that intentionally combines a high-level of technique and craft with provocative ideas. Elon’s Art curriculum encourages students to reach across disciplines and media to explore a variety of approaches to art making. Students will develop an appreciation for the relationship between the study of the liberal arts and art/art history, thereby broadening the context for their studio work. The development of professional practices and communication skills are also a central part of the BFA curriculum.
Elon offers many opportunities that are ideal for developing artists, including study abroad programs in London and Florence as well as a wide range of other international programs. Elon also offers art department merit scholarships, work-study opportunities across the campus, arts learning communities, student art organizations, an active visiting artist/exhibition program, and an outstanding Art History Speaker Series. We also encourage art students who are eligible for the Leadership, Honors, or Elon College Fellows programs to apply for the BFA.
The BFA in Art is ideal for those who want to pursue further study at the graduate level and/or a career as a professional artist. Elon art alumni have been accepted to graduate programs at Pratt Institute, The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Savannah College of Art and Design, Drexel University, Harvard University, Brunel University in London England, The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and many others. Some of these artists have gone on to work in many different professions, including, but not limited to: teaching, library science, graphic and web design, arts management, the practice of law, corporate management, interior and fashion design, and product marketing.
Included below on this webpage is the links to our on-line BFA in art application area. Please follow the directions carefully, as mistakes may delay or invalidate your application.
