Our Mission

In Elon’s Art Department, we inspire students to reach their full potential as makers, thinkers, and global citizens. We are accomplished artists/scholars with a passion for student learning and growth. Our curriculum explores art’s past and present, its capacity for critical inquiry, and its role in imagining and crafting the future. Each studio art course fosters curiosity while rigorously equipping students with the technical and conceptual tools they need to contribute to a diverse and complex world. Students in our department benefit from an inclusive and collaborative environment that emphasizes direct student-to-teacher mentorship and exposure to professional practices within creative careers. Critical thinking, material exploration, civic engagement, and interdisciplinary approaches to artmaking are hallmarks of each of the program’s specialties— Ceramics, Drawing, Intermedia, Painting, and Photography.
