Life After Graduation
Armed with a solid foundation in the field, Elon chemistry graduates have pursued careers in government, private industry, college and high school teaching, medicine, sales and management. Chemistry majors are encouraged to pursue advanced training in chemical fields such as analytical chemistry, biochemistry, inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry, physical chemistry, environmental science, neuroscience, and forensic science. Approximately 50% of our alumni go on to graduate and medical school at many institutions directly after graduation, including:
- Vanderbilt University (Ph.D. Biochemistry)
- Duke University (M.D., Ph.D. Chemistry)
- Tufts University (Ph.D. Biochemistry)
- Yale University (Ph.D. Chemistry)
- Tulane University (M.D.)
- Loyola University – Chicago (M.D.)
- Wake Forest University (M.D., Ph.D. Medicinal Chemistry)
- Northwestern University (Masters Biotechnology)
- Johns Hopkins University (M.D.)
- Boston University (D.D.S., Masters Public Health)
- University of North Carolina (M.D., D.D.S., Pharmacy, Ph.D. Chemistry)
- University of Virginia (Ph.D. Chemistry)
- University of Maryland (M.D., Pharmacy)
- University of California at Berkeley (Ph.D. Chemistry, Ph.D. Biochemistry)
- University of California at San Diego (Ph.D. Biochemistry)
- University of South Carolina (Ph.D. Biochemistry/Neuroscience)
- University of Kentucky (Ph.D. Biochemistry/Neuroscience)
In addition to professional and graduate schools, approximately 35% of our graduates each year are employed directly in the chemical, biochemical and health professions, typically as research assistants, medical scribes, or in chemical sales, quality assurance, biotechnology or forensics; the remainder of our graduating students opt to engage in service activities, such as Teach for America, the Peace Corps, AmeriCorps, or various non-profit organizations.
