FAQ

What is the Global Film & Cultures minor?

The Global Film & Cultures (GFC) minor is an academic program focused on global film studies, emphasizing three key areas: history, industries, and theory/interpretation. It aims to equip students with a comprehensive understanding of film, including the analysis of significant power structures, ideologies, and global contexts that influence films and their associated industries and cultures.

What are the requirements for completing the GFC minor?

Students must complete 20 credit hours to fulfill the GFC minor requirements. This includes 8 credit hours from the required introductory (GFC 2100) and capstone (GFC 4970) courses, and 12 credit hours from elective courses. Students must choose one elective from each of the three tracks (history, industries, theory/interpretation) and cannot take more than one elective with the same course prefix.

What is the purpose of the introductory class in the GFC minor?

The introductory class serves as a foundation for the minor, covering the essential aspects of the three main tracks: history, industries, and theory/interpretation. It’s required to ensure students have a fundamental understanding of these areas to build upon in their elective and capstone courses.

Can I take more than one elective course within the same track for the GFC minor?
