The Elon University Band program consists of two concert ensembles that provide high quality musical experiences around the campus community. The concert ensembles include the Elon University Wind Ensemble, “Phoenix Winds,” and the Elon Concert Band. Each ensemble presents multiple concerts per semester, performing music from a wide variety of composers, time periods, and styles. We strive for excellence in performance while supporting the individual goals of the ensemble members. These ensembles also collaborate with faculty across the Elon University campus alongside the community to provide opportunities for all connected to the University and surrounding area.

Wind Ensemble

Photo of the wind ensemble playing during concertThe Elon University Wind Ensemble “Phoenix Winds” is a contemporary wind ensemble focused on the performance of a wide variety of established and newly composed repertoire at the highest level possible. The band rehearses just once a week in the fall and spring, allowing you enough time to participate in the ensemble and still have time to explore other musical experiences or take advantage of other opportunities that Elon offers.

Registration to join the wind ensemble is open to any student at Elon University with experience playing a wind or percussion instrument. There are no auditions to join the ensemble if you meet the experience requirement; however, small part placement auditions are held at the beginning of each semester. Sign-up sheets for these placement auditions will be posted outside the band room (CFA 164) one week before school begins.

Concert Band

The Elon Concert Band is an ensemble that focuses on developing instrumental music fundamentals through standard band literature. This ensemble is open to all students (regardless of major), community members, faculty, and even select high school students in the area.

As a service to the surrounding community this ensemble prides itself in welcoming all musicians. No auditions are required to join this ensemble.
