Artistic Endeavors

These are photos of “wall art” that Anthony Weston (and sometimes his students, children, or colleagues) painted on various walls in class rooms across the Elon campus. We sometimes refer to these as “guerrilla art” as they were often placed on the walls without prior approval of the administration–who subsequently had to acquiesce in their existence. As I understand it, Anthony’s point often was: critical thinking and philosophy is not something that you learn so that you can apply it elsewhere. But rather, it is something that you can apply constantly and–for example in particular–to the environment within which one learns. It is entirely unnecessary to accept that the walls of a classroom must be left blank and uninteresting. Things can be different and we can proactively alter our environment and our thinking. The results are here to see.
