Poverty Studies Minor Course Substitution Form

If you would like to request a course substitution for the PSJ minor requirement please complete and submit this form. Upload the course syllabus or course description before submitted. The Poverty and Social Justice minor allows students to substitute up to 2 courses for the minor.
  • Students seeking an elective substitution for a course not currently listed on the PSJ website. Please respond on how at least three (3) learning objectives listed on the Poverty Studies webpage connect to the substitute course.
  • Students seeking a capstone substitution must connect to the three learning objectives listed below and three (3). Please make sure that the connections are explicitly stated. 1. Demonstrate an understanding of how poverty alleviation can be engaged from multiple disciplinary approaches 2. Demonstrate an understanding of the relationship between domestic and global poverty 3. Integrate theoretical, experiential, and personal perspectives on poverty and social justice
  • Each Substitute must have 40 hours of direct engagement with a low-income population and meet all five learning goals. Please articulate how the substitute course will address each of the following learning: • Engage in advocacy directed toward alleviating poverty • Build interpersonal, interdisciplinary, and cross-cultural communication skills • Integrate theoretical, experiential, and personal perspectives on poverty and social justice • Foster respect for the multiple resources that individuals and communities bring to understanding poverty. • Recognize and affirm mutuality and accountability as foundational to working with and on behalf of those affected by poverty.
