Global Engagement
Studying abroad gives students the opportunity to expand their global perspective and broaden their cross-cultural awareness, better preparing them for a global business environment. Seventy-four percent of Love School of Business majors in the Class of 2021 reported studying abroad or participating in Study USA at least once during their college career.
LSB Center Abroad in Shanghai
The Love School of Business Center Abroad in Shanghai, China, offers business students a semester-long study abroad opportunity to take Love School of Business core courses and business electives, as well as complete an internship in Shanghai. No prior Chinese language experience is required. Students develop their knowledge of Asia through study tours to places like Thailand and Hong Kong, and visit a variety of cultural and religious sites. A Love School of Business faculty-in-residence teaches the business core courses and accompanies the students on the study tours. Students stay and take classes at East China Normal University. For more information, contact Bill Burress at bburress@elon.edu.
“There’s no better way to internalize the culture than to experience it. You’re taking this base of knowledge that Elon has given you and you’re applying it to the real world. And in return you’re taking this knowledge you gained from this study abroad experience and you’re bringing it back to Elon.”
Winter Term Study Abroad Courses
The Love School of Business, in conjunction with the Isabella Cannon Global Education Center, offers undergraduate Winter Term study abroad courses, such as Business and Culture of Vietnam, Business and Culture in the Pacific Rim, and EUROMED.
A key skill that many of us came to adopt during our time in Asia was becoming comfortable with discomfort. We launched ourselves into an environment that, for the majority of us, was brand new, fast-paced and a bit daunting. We marched confidently into the unknown, experienced foods and traditions we’d never been exposed to prior and are more culturally-aware men and women because of it all.
