Certified Financial Planner Certification™

The Certified Financial Planner™ certification is the standard for financial planning. CFP® professionals meet rigorous education, training and ethical standards, and are committed to serving their clients’ best interests today to prepare them for a more secure tomorrow.

Elon University is a partner with the Certified Financial Planner™ Board to be an authorized education provider.

The certification requires candidates to complete comprehensive education, pass a board exam, gain relevant experience, and meet ethical requirements.

To satisfy the education requirement, students must complete:

  • FIN3430 Principles of Finance
  • FIN4130 Investments
  • FIN4190 Financial Planning
  • FIN4160 Fundamentals of Insurance (now including Estate and Philanthropic Planning)
  • ACC3410 Fundamentals of Income Taxation
  • FIN4670 Advanced Wealth Management (Capstone Class)

Once the student completes the courses, they will be able to sit for the exam with no additional education requirements.
