Founded in fall 2020, the Center for Financial Literacy aims to provide objective, high-quality resources to assist individuals in making personal financial decisions. Through programming and outreach, we help students, faculty, staff, alumni and community members build their understanding of financial skills. We also support students interested in exploring wealth management and financial planning careers.

Our main activities include:

  • Highlighting opportunities and resources in the financial planning and wealth management fields through career events, guest speakers and networking events
  • Facilitating personal finance workshops on topics such as budgeting, strategies for eliminating debt and preparing for retirement
  • Conducting financial literacy lessons to elementary schools in Alamance County through a partnership with Junior Achievement

The Center is housed on the first floor of Richard W. Sankey Hall, room 116.

Dr. Harris has a passion for finance, specifically in understanding how individuals and companies manage the finite resources they have available to them.  He enjoys teaching classes that help students understand how companies make financial decisions, and how individuals can make wise financial decisions to achieve major financial goals.  When not thinking about finance, he loves to spend time with family playing and coaching sports, or working on their "farm".

Dr. Harris received a Ph.D. in Finance from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (2013) and a B.S. in Business Administration (Finance) from Middle Tennessee State University.  Prior to working at Elon he worked as a hedge fund analyst with Greenwich Alternative Investments.
