Job Description

A product development specialist’s main job is to develop products, strategies, and business plans for upcoming products within their company. They watch the market trends to develop plans that will increase sales, establish deadlines, and ensure the product development teams are on schedule. Product development specialists need to communicate with other departments and vendors on the status of the product, as well as provide clear guidelines for the project and solicit and incorporate feedback. Typical employers for product development specialists are companies that create products or services; this is generally a full-time position that takes place in an office setting, although overtime may be required depending on the needs of the company. Travel may be needed depending on the employer’s requirements.

Typical Position Requirements

Product development specialists must have at least a bachelor’s degree in business, economics, marketing, or a related field. They should also have at least three years of experience in a related field and/or position. They must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong problem-solving, and good analytical skills. These specialists should have good time management, organizational, and planning skills as well. Additionally, product development specialists must be proficient with basic computer programs such as the Microsoft Office suite.
