Typical Position Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in finance or a related field – or relevant work experience
Certification: Not all budget analysts need professional certification, but local, state and federal government offices often prefer certified job candidates. For example, the Certified Government Financial Manager (CGFM) credential from the Association of Government Accountants requires candidates to hold a bachelor’s degree, at least 24 college credits in financial management, and at least two years of professional experience working for the government.
