Business Fellows Program Stages
Year One
First-year fellows take Elon 101 together, a course focusing on building leadership skills and establishing connections as they adjust to college. Fellows also take rigorous courses offered exclusively to their cohort group. These courses introduce fellows to the challenges of today’s dynamic marketplace through the study of business, economics and accounting.
Year Two
Sophomore fellows continue preparing for their internships and post-graduate careers by participating in a professional development program delivered by the experienced staff in the Love School of Business’ Porter Family Professional Development Center. Fellows take part in workshops focused on résumé creation, interviewing, networking skills, business etiquette and formal communication skills. Throughout the year, fellows take cohort classes in management, management information systems, finance, and business law and ethics. During Winter Term, fellows examine global business issues and spend two weeks abroad in locations such as Europe, Mexico, Argentina and the United Arab Emirates. Sophomore fellows also head to New York, Boston or San Francisco to visit a variety of companies and meet with executives at companies such as PricewaterhouseCoopers, Credit Suisse, BlackRock, Merrill Lynch, Google and Bloomberg.
Year Three
Fellows line up summer internships and are expected to further their global awareness by studying abroad for a semester during junior year.
Year Four
During senior year, Business Fellows divide into two groups for capstone projects:
- The consulting team learns about the world of management consulting while working with companies on projects that might include marketing research, human resource management practices or operations, and being mentored by business executives.
- The portfolio management team manages a roughly $300,000 equity portfolio and is challenged to maintain the fellows’ past performance, which has nearly always exceeded the performance of major financial indices.
Members of the Elon Business Fellows graduating class receive medallions to be worn at commencement in a ceremony in front of faculty, staff, family and friends.
