International Consultant Joins Elon for Summer Project Mapping Professional Development Opportunities across the Institution

 

A bit about me

My name is Jordan Kirkwood and I am working with the Center for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning and Inclusive Community Development Office to undertake an institution-wide project mapping the professional development opportunities available for Elon Faculty and Staff to develop or deepen engagement with diversity, inclusion, or global engagement.

I’m an Apprentice Higher Education Manager at Aston University in Birmingham, United Kingdom and I’m currently on a secondment year. I have just come from a 6 month secondment at the University of Birmingham for 6 months and now I’m here at Elon for 3 months (until October 5th), then onto Warwick University back in the UK for another 3 months.

A bit about the project

The purpose of this project is to ascertain what professional development opportunities and activities on these topics are both available and accessed across the institution with a view to further coordinate, advertise, enhance, and fine tune offerings.

As part of this process, I will be interviewing faculty and staff from across a range of offices and departments to gain an understanding and develop the project. We will have a list of questions pertaining to a working rubric we are mapping the project against, to help us understand the variety, depth and outcomes of professional development opportunities and activities at Elon.

The discussions will be conversational and flexible to enable a natural flow and open dialogue about professional development.
