¡Celebremos!: Graduates Take Flight

Today, I celebrate my achievements and professional growth alongside my family, friends, mentors, and those sharing a similar journey. These successes wouldn’t be possible without my parents and grandparents, to whom I owe my grit and work ethic. My parents come from families that taught them the power of dedication, resilience, and hard work. They immigrated to the U.S. in their early 40s with three young children and little knowledge of English, yet I had a front-row seat to witness their passion, grind, and perseverance as they built a life here. Because of them, we—their children—know that our future is boundless, and quitting is not an option.

To my husband, Steven: thank you for your endless support. Your unwavering kindness and generosity, not just to me but to everyone around us, never go unnoticed. You didn’t hesitate to move across the country so I could pursue one of my lifelong dreams. Through the highs and lows, you never doubted my potential—WE DID IT!

To my mentors, your guidance and leadership have shown me new heights I once thought impossible. Because of you, I am motivated and passionate about advancing the field we love. And to my family, both biological and chosen, and my friends, thank you for supporting me throughout this journey in ways you may never fully realize. I share this moment with each of you.

This celebration signifies triumph, ambition, resilience, dreams, sacrifice, perseverance, and hard work. Thank you all for being part of it.

We made it! It has been a long, bumpy journey, but we are here now at the finish line. To my Elon PA friends, I couldn’t have done this without you guys. Through all the ups and downs, we were always there for one another. I will forever cherish the memories. Ma y pa, gracias por todo. Este logro es para ustedes. Los quiero mucho. To the rest of my friends and family, thank you for your constant support and for always believing in me.

Chuy, thank you for the nightly tuck-ins and emotional support. I’m expecting more now that I’m studying for the BAR. You are supportive, kind, and generous and I’m lucky to be your little sister. I love you.

Aunque mi abuelita está en México, quiero dar mis gracias a ella porque ella me ha ensenado a tener paciencia y fortaleza. Yo sé que ella está muy orgullosa de mí.

To Ms. Barker, thank you for mentorship and friendship throughout high school and college. I’m grateful you’re in my corner and I’m happy you get to see the end of my law school chapter.

To my friends, both from Maryland and NC, thank you guys for being here with me. Thank you for listening to my fears, worries, dreams, hopes, and wonders. I hope you guys.
Lastly and most importantly, thank you Jesus for giving me the grace, strength, and peace to thrive in law school. You are faithful, present, and closer than a brother. Thank you, thank you, thank you for everything you’ve done for me. I love you.

To my family: everything I am, is thanks to you. All of my accomplishments were possible because of your unconditional love and encouragement. You know the last two years have not been easy, but you taught me how to be resilient. You showed me all my life that you can’t give up because then nothing will happen. Every day in law school was a reminder to me of all of your struggles in life, and how hard you both worked so that JP and I could have the privilege of even having the option to get a degree. My degree and career in law is a testament to everything you did to make sure I grew up with everything I needed. I will forever be proud to be your daughter.

My parents have been my biggest inspiration in life. They have always showed me what it is to be hardworking, not through their words, but through their actions. My dad told me when I was a little girl that I was capable of anything. My mom has always supported every decision I have made to pursue my dreams. My parents have believed in my abilities every step of the way, even when I didn’t believe in myself. I don’t think they realize that without them, I wouldn’t be where I am, and I wouldn’t be who I am.

You both came to this country with dreams, resilience, and the hope of building a better life for your family. The road was never easy, and the challenges you faced were many. Yet, despite all of that, you never stopped working, never stopped believing in me and my siblings, and never stopped pushing me to reach for things I didn’t even know were possible.

There have been so many times when I doubted myself and my abilities to keep pursuing my dreams—when the pressure of continuing felt overwhelming. But I never doubted that you believed in me. Your encouragement and faith in me kept me going.

I am pursuing a career in law; but I am also pursuing a future that is built on the foundation of your hard work and determination. I carry your values and the strength you have shown me every day and will continue to do so.

Thank you for everything you have done for me. I hope I have made you proud.

To the rest of my village, my partner, and the rest of my family here, your support means the world to me, and I thank you all as well.

Thank you to my friends and family for being so supportive and attentive these past two years. I would not have been able to make it through grad school without the group of friends I have made in the PA program. I am so thankful and grateful that I met and created friendships with the people I invited today.

As I take a moment to reflect on the journey I’ve had in pursuing my dream of becoming a lawyer, I find that words can hardly capture the depth of my gratitude for my friends and family.

From the very beginning, when I first dared to dream of becoming a lawyer, siempre creyeron en mí incluso cuando no estaba segura de que yo creyera en mí misma.

Su apoyo se ha presento en muchas formas—whether it was a simple word of encouragement, a listening ear, or sending me chocolatey desserts when I was crying my eyes out because property was the worst.

Pero, siempre me dieron la fuerza para continuar and y’all always celebrated my wins with me, big and small.

This achievement is not mine alone; este logro les pertenece a ustedes también.

Dear family,
I want to start by thanking you all for your unconditional support. I especially want to thank my parents, since thanks to them I am about to receive my diploma as a nurse. I don’t have enough words to express my gratitude for everything you have done for me.
Thank you very much for your sacrifices, for your tireless efforts and for always being willing to do your best for my well-being. There is nothing more valuable to me than having your unconditional love. You are my greatest source of inspiration, and I will always carry you with me in every decision and every achievement that comes my way.

Thank you so much to my family! I would not be where I am today if it was not for each and every single one of you. Hoy celebro mis logros y mi crecimiento profesional junto a mi familia, amigos, mentores y aquellos que comparten un camino similar. Estos éxitos no habrían sido posibles sin mis padres y abuelos, a quienes debo mi determinación y ética de trabajo. Mis padres vienen de familias que les enseñaron el poder de la dedicación, la resiliencia y el trabajo duro. Emigraron a los Estados Unidos a principios de sus cuarentas con tres hijos pequeños y poco conocimiento del inglés, y yo tuve el privilegio de ver de primera mano su pasión, esfuerzo y perseverancia mientras construían una vida aquí. Gracias a ellos, nosotros—sus hijos—sabemos que nuestro futuro no tiene límites y que rendirse no es una opción.
A mi esposo, Steven: gracias por tu apoyo incondicional. Tu amabilidad y generosidad inquebrantables, no solo hacia mí sino hacia todos los que nos rodean, nunca pasan sin reconocimiento. No dudaste en mudarte al otro lado del país para que pudiera perseguir uno de mis sueños de toda la vida. En los altos y bajos, nunca dudaste de mi potencial—¡LO LOGRAMOS!

Even though my grandmother is in Mexico, I want to thank her because she has taught me to have patience and strength. I know she is very proud of me.

Saben que los últimos dos años no han sido fáciles, pero me enseñaron a ser resiliente. Me mostraron durante toda mi vida que no se puede rendir, porque si te rindes, nada sucede. Cada día en la facultad de Derecho fue un recordatorio para mí de todas sus luchas en la vida y de lo mucho que trabajaron para que JP y yo tuviéramos el privilegio de tener la opción de obtener un título. Mi título y mi carrera en Derecho son un testimonio de todo lo que hicieron para asegurarse de que creciera con todo lo que necesitaba. Siempre estaré orgullosa de ser su hija.

Vocês sabem que os últimos dois anos não foram fáceis, mas me ensinaram a ser resiliente. Vocês me mostraram ao longo da vida que não se pode desistir, porque, se desistirmos, nada acontece. Cada dia na faculdade de Direito foi um lembrete para mim de todas as suas lutas na vida e de como vocês trabalharam duro para que JP e eu tivéssemos o privilégio de sequer ter a opção de obter um diploma. Meu diploma e minha carreira no Direito são um testemunho de tudo o que vocês fizeram para garantir que eu crescesse com tudo o que precisava. Sempre terei orgulho de ser sua filha.

Mis padres han sido mi mayor inspiración en la vida. Siempre me han mostrado lo que es ser trabajadora, no con sus palabras, sino con sus acciones. Mi papá me dijo cuando era niña que era capaz de cualquier cosa. Mi mamá siempre ha apoyado cada decisión que he tomado para perseguir mis sueños. Mis padres han creído en mis habilidades en cada paso del camino, incluso cuando yo no creía en mí misma. No creo que se dan cuenta de que sin ellos no estaría donde estoy, y no sería quien soy.
Ambos llegaron a este país con sueños, resiliencia y la esperanza de construir una mejor vida para su familia. El camino nunca fue fácil y los desafíos que enfrentaron fueron muchos. Sin embargo, a pesar de todo eso, nunca dejaron de trabajar, nunca dejaron de creer en mí y en mis hermanos, y nunca dejaron de empujarme a alcanzar cosas que ni siquiera sabía que eran posibles.
Han habido muchas ocasiones en las que dudé de mí misma y de mis capacidades para seguir persiguiendo mis sueños, cuando la presión de continuar me pareció abrumadora. Pero nunca dudé de que creían en mí. Su apoyoy su fe en mí me hicieron seguir adelante.
Estoy persiguiendo una carrera en derecho; pero también persigo un futuro que se construye sobre la base de su arduo trabajo y determinación. Llevo sus valores y la fuerza que me han demostrado cada día, y seguiré haciéndolo.
Gracias por todo lo que han hecho por mí. Espero haberlos hecho sentir orgullosos.
Para el resto de mi pueblo, mi pareja, y el resto de mi familia aquí, su apoyo significa mucho para mí y también les agradezco a todos.

Gracias a mis amigos y a mi familia por ser tan solidarios y atentos conmigo estos últimos dos años. No habría logrado cursar el posgrado sin el grupo de amigos que encontré en el programa. Estoy muy agradecida de haberlos conocido y haber logrado crear amistades con la gente a la que invité hoy.

Al refleccionar sobre el viaje que he tenido al perseguir mi sueño de ser abogada, encuentro que hay pocas palabras que pueden capturar la profundidad de mi gratitud hacia mis amigos y familia.
Desde el puro principio, cuando comenzé a soñar con ser abogada,  you always believed in me, even when I wasnt so sure I believed in myself.
Your support has been present in many ways—ya sea una palabra alentadora, un oído atento, o el envío de postres de chocolate cuando estaba lloraba a mares por que la propiedad es lo peor.
But you always gave me the strength to go on, y celebraron mis victorias conmigo, grandes y pequeñas.
Este logro no es sólo mío; it belongs to you too.
The values you instilled in me have taught me the meaning of perseverance and the importance of being authentically me.
And now, en el umbral de mi carrera,  llevo conmigo no solo el conocimiento y las habilidades que he adquirido,  but also the love, wisdom, and support you have given me unconditionally.

Quiero comenzar por darles las gracias a todos por su apoyo incondicional. En especial, quiero agradecer a mis padres, ya que gracias a ellos estoy a punto de recibir mi diploma como enfermera. No tengo palabras suficientes para expresar mi gratitud por todo lo que han hecho por mí.
Muchas gracias por sus sacrificios, por sus esfuerzos incansables y por siempre estar dispuestos a dar lo mejor de ustedes para mi bienestar.
