OEG 2 – To ensure SPT Faculty are committed to excellence to Elon’s teacher-scholar-mentor model
Measure 1 SPT strives to meet or exceed the average Student Perceptions of Teaching (SPOT) scores of Elon University faculty on the majority of the instruction measures. Data will be compared annually. Data from the Fall 2023 SPoT scores reported that in 11 of the 13 instruction measures, the majority of SPT faculty scored higher than the University average. Two measures – the instructor communicated clear guidelines about graded work and the instructor gave feedback that helped me learn scored below the university average.

SPT faculty will discuss using Moodle to input grades and strategies that can assist in proving students with timely, intentional feedback. *Spring 2024 scores are currently unavailable.

OEG 3 – Engage alumni and industry professionals in activities that enhance the Department of Sport Management
Measure 1 Assessment of annual alumni and/or industry professional campus visits and involvement in: class presentations; Homecoming programming; and in-class video calls The Department of SPT continues to enhance alumni engagement. Several methods are employed to capture alumni, including the SPT Alumni Survey, points of contacts via social media, and ongoing invitations to return to all SPT related activities. The Sport Experience in Charlotte has generated exceptional alumni relations opportunities, which we hope to increase in the coming years.

Industry professionals are actively engaged in all our classes throughout the year, along with annual events (Sport Management Symposium, WINS). Finally, industry professionals are represented on the School of Communications Advisory Board.

Three SPT faculty published an article in the Sports Innovation Journal regarding living and learning as a high-impact practice.

A faculty member co-edited a book titled, “Cultivating Capstones Designing High-Quality Culminating Experiences for Student Learning” focusing on multi-institutional, mixed-methods research on capstones and co-authoring two chapters on the current landscape of the capstone experiences.

Measure 3 Annual review of SPT curriculum Implementation of the new curriculum began in the 2023-2024 academic year.

With a need to address Esports, approval for the course was received from the university core curriculum committee and is expected to be taught this academic year.

With other curriculum changes prioritized during 2023-2024, faculty will submit a proposal for an international sport course and sport in society course during the 2024-2025 academic year to the school and university curriculum committees.

COR 3060, College Athletics course that is taught by faculty in sport management was designated as an Advancing Equity Requirement (AER). All students must take an AER designated course.

SPT 2320 Data and Sport Research and SPT 4120 Sport Finance received Data Intensive Course designation to begin Fall 2024.

SPT 4970 received Leadership ELR designation that began Fall 2023.
