Advanced Data Competency Badge

The intention of this badge is to provide a microcredential to students who have established a consistent curricular and co-curricular engagement with data. In order to guarantee a breadth of experiences with data, the proposed microcredential includes three experiences.

Co-curricular experiences: Students will complete at least 2 unique co-curricular data experiences that have been approved by the Data Nexus committee. These could include:

  • Data Nexus Sponsored Data Competition
  • Sports Marketing Case Competition
  • Data Intensive Designated Research Presentation at SURF or Data Nexus approved presentation at an external conference
  • Data Intensive Not for Credit Internship or an experience related to an internship that is outside of the expectations listed in the internship syllabus.
  • Data Nexus approved artistic project submitted to a competition
  • Center for Organizational Analytics Team Member
  • Data Nexus Approved Certification Earned
  • Tutor for an accountability session of STS 1100, STS 2120, or ECO 2300
  • Complete Citi (IRB) training
  • Working with the analytics team for student media or Live Oak Communications
  • Participation in a data project, which is unrelated to the expectations of a course, for a community partner.
  • Participation in a data project, which is unrelated to the expectations of a course, for a campus partner.
  • Other experiences approved by Data Nexus

Curricular experiences: Students will successfully complete, with a C or higher, 3 Data Intensive Designated classes from at least two different disciplines.

Here you will submit:

  1. Your list of Data Intensive Courses that you are using towards the badge
  2. Your list of Co-curricular experiences that you are using towards the badge, along with evidence or reference speaking to your completion
  3. A 90 second reflective video which speaks to how your co-curricular and curricular experiences have contributed to your advanced data proficiency related to these SLOs. In this reflection, please point to specific data examples, sample assignments, sample exam problems, sample projects, etc. when reflecting on your proficiency in these SLOs.
