In this course, students apply credible sources of evidence to evaluate the financial position of publicly traded companies. Students think critically about what financial data (e.g., revenues and expenses, ratios, and historical data of stocks) is needed to justify their investment decisions and evaluate companies’ financial performance. MarketWatch’s stock exchange simulation game is incorporated into the assignments. The game provides students with the real-time stock market data (e.g., stock prices, gain and loss on a stock, and market indices) enabling them to assess and respond to a large amount of secondary data. Students use Microsoft Excel analyze and interpret financial ratios, risk measure indicators (e.g., stand-alone return and risk and beta coefficient), and stock market data (e.g., current and historical data, dividend, and trading volume). Achieves technology student learning outcomes c and d.
