In this course, preservice teachers will think critically about what is required to collect, interpret, implement, and communicate data in special education contexts and settings. Students will explore the role of data in progress monitoring of K-12 students’ behavioral and academic goals, and the Individualized Education Plan (IEP) development and monitoring process for students with disabilities. Students will learn about the data sources used in local school systems that allow for data collection and monitoring of K-12 students’ goals. They
assess the various sources with ethical considerations about equity-based instruction, and for efficiency and effectiveness. They learn about, and experience, the contexts of local school settings in which the student data is being collected and used to make informed decisions about K-12 student learning outcomes.
