This course is designed to equip students with the skills needed to critically and regularly engage with data in public policy. Students respond to daily prompts related to readings, requiring them to engage with real-world policy data and reflect on its necessity in policy analysis. Students evaluate different approaches to policy analysis, emphasizing how data is used in various methodologies and with consideration for what types of data are relevant to different approaches. Students lead discussions on real-world policy issues, requiring them to determine what data is relevant to understanding a given issue. Additionally, students explore where to retrieve data, evaluate the sources of the data, and ensure that they are credible.
