EDU 3150
In this course students learn to design, adapt, or select appropriate formative and summative assessments and analyze data to make informed instructional decisions. They learn to provide meaningful feedback and support student learning based on assessment results. By examining inequities in educational assessments and analyzing School Improvement Plans, they understand how data drives school decisions. Readings and discussions about grading models, rubrics, and assessment equity require students to think about when qualitative versus quantitative data is most appropriate. Students consider how different contexts influence whether collecting grades is the most appropriate measure of learning. By the end of the semester, students also do an edTPA assessment. Following a teaching segment, students create written analyses of student learning, providing a structured commentary, with a table or chart to summarize assessment data they collected. Students document feedback in various forms, including written comments, audio clips, or video recordings, ensuring communication is accessible and meaningful for diverse learners. Students may use video or work samples to illustrate how students demonstrate content understanding through language use. This assignment ensures students synthesize and present assessment data clearly, tailoring their communication for different audiences, including students, instructors, and evaluators.
