In this course, students think critically about the significance of the research they’re reading; what is the gap in the literature and how might the current study and data collection/analytic plan address that gap? This is met through our in-class discussions, and through the analyses students complete of quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-methods studies. This whole process is then completed again for the final project, but from a different perspective–with the students as the researchers. Students compare and contrast different approaches to collecting and analyzing data all semester and the final project is an opportunity for them to figure out how they might answer their research question from a quantitative or qualitative perspective.
