Alamance Scholars

Through a partnership with Elon University, Alamance-Burlington School System (ABSS), and Alamance Community College (ACC), the mission of the Alamance Scholars program is to create a sustainable and diverse teacher pipeline for Alamance County public schools with the goal of retaining local citizens as educators in our community.

Program Goals
  1. To improve the pipeline and opportunities to become a PK-12 teacher in ABSS;
  2. To increase opportunities for people of the Alamance community to further their education;
  3. To increase the number of highly qualified diverse equity-minded teachers in our community;
  4. To acknowledge teachers are an important part of our success as a community.

“I love being at Elon! I’ve met so many friendly faces and my professors have been my biggest support system. All of my courses have prepared me for my placements. I’ve always wanted to stay close to home and knowing I get to graduate and have the opportunity to give back to the county I grew up in is so important. Elon is the perfect choice and I could not imagine being anywhere else.”

“I have known from a very young age that I wanted to be a teacher. I had many important teachers that made a positive impact on me throughout my time as a student in Alamance-Burlington School System (ABSS). The Alamance Scholars Program has given me the opportunity to attend my dream school, Elon University, where I am able to take classes to learn about teaching and engage in the practice through field placements in ABSS. I am committed to giving back to ABSS by teaching in the local system upon graduation.”

“While I love online learning, nothing compares to the engagement of Elon’s in-person classes. Every activity is hands-on, deeply connected to real-world experiences, and applicable for my life as a teacher candidate. Everyone at Elon is supportive of my goals and my experiences are making me a better and more well-rounded educator.”

“Transitioning to Elon has been wonderful. The support I receive from the faculty has been welcoming. I recently had the opportunity to work with multilingual children who recently moved to the United States. Elon is the place to come to broaden your mind and experiences.”
