Alamance Scholars

Through a partnership with Elon University, Alamance-Burlington School System (ABSS), and Alamance Community College (ACC), the mission of the Alamance Scholars program is to create a sustainable and diverse teacher pipeline for Alamance County public schools with the goal of retaining local citizens as educators in our community.

Program Goals
  1. To improve the pipeline and opportunities to become a PK-12 teacher in ABSS;
  2. To increase opportunities for people of the Alamance community to further their education;
  3. To increase the number of highly qualified diverse equity-minded teachers in our community;
  4. To acknowledge teachers are an important part of our success as a community.

“I love being at Elon! I’ve met so many friendly faces and my professors have been my biggest support system. All of my courses have prepared me for my placements. I’ve always wanted to stay close to home and knowing I get to graduate and have the opportunity to give back to the county I grew up in is so important. Elon is the perfect choice and I could not imagine being anywhere else.”

“I can honestly say that I have wanted to become a teacher ever since I can remember, and my love for education has not wavered in the slightest! Elon has always been my dream school, and Alamance Scholars has not only provided financial support for my education journey but has also allowed me to live out my dream of being a Phoenix! Alamance Scholars allows education majors to experience field placements in local ABSS schools during Junior year, and a student teaching experience during Senior year, as well as guarantees a job within an ABSS school upon graduation! Alamance Scholars has provided me with all the best experiences to become a successful elementary school educator!”

“I have known from a very young age that I wanted to be a teacher. I had many important teachers that made a positive impact on me throughout my time as a student in Alamance-Burlington School System (ABSS). The Alamance Scholars Program has given me the opportunity to attend my dream school, Elon University, where I am able to take classes to learn about teaching and engage in the practice through field placements in ABSS. I am committed to giving back to ABSS by teaching in the local system upon graduation.”

“Ever since I was little, I had the idea of possibly pursuing teaching. Once I decided to pursue teaching, I dreamed of attending Elon, and through the Alamance Scholars Program, that dream was made a reality! I have been able to attend classes at Elon as well as different field placements in the Alamance Burlington School System. Through Elon, I have received hands on experience and gained support from my professors, shaping me into the teacher I want to be more and more each day. In the Spring of 2026, I will graduate from Elon with the intent of teaching within ABSS!”

“While I love online learning, nothing compares to the engagement of Elon’s in-person classes. Every activity is hands-on, deeply connected to real-world experiences, and applicable for my life as a teacher candidate. Everyone at Elon is supportive of my goals and my experiences are making me a better and more well-rounded educator.”

“I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here at Elon so far. Though it has only been one semester so far, it’s been amazing. My favorite parts of Elon include many things such as the community, the environment, and the deeper understanding I gain about the education programs here. All of the teaching courses I have been a part of have truly opened my eyes and have set me up very well for when I start teaching. Being an Alamance Scholar gave me another reason to be excited to attend Elon and I’m so glad I chose to do it. I had always dreamed of going to Elon but it was never possible until this program came along.”

“Transitioning to Elon has been wonderful. The support I receive from the faculty has been welcoming. I recently had the opportunity to work with multilingual children who recently moved to the United States. Elon is the place to come to broaden your mind and experiences.”
