During winter term of junior year, Teaching Fellows participate in a leadership experience in Washington, D.C. Fellows first have a few days of classes on campus, before busing to D.C. for approximately 10 days of political science seminars to gain an understanding of political context for and the role of media in educational decision-making. They learn from leading journalists, White House personnel, and politicians about the workings of the federal government and how to become leaders in educational advocacy. Fellows then return to Elon for a additional classes to reflect upon their D.C. experiences, learn more about education policy, and consider the implications of those experiences for their work as educators.
