2019 Global Education Symposium Registration

Learning Objectives

Upon completion attendees will:

  • Examine the definition and current approaches to developing intercultural competence in university students
  • Understand how an approach to fostering intercultural competence should consider the characteristics of the students, their environment, and the institutional context
  • Explore and co-create new alternative approaches to develop these skills including design of specific activities to develop students’ intercultural competence that fit the characteristics of their own students, their environment, and their institutional context

Dr. Wong’s area of interest and expertise include intercultural competence, global learning, and the impact of study abroad experiences. He is especially interested in the potential created in the interaction between students of different cultures. Formerly a high school teacher, David received a Ph.D. from Stanford University and has been on the faculty in the College of Education at Michigan State University for over twenty years. He is currently a Visiting Professor at Tokyo Gakugei University, one of Japan’s top education universities. He has led study abroad programs to Japan, England, and the Netherlands.
