Student Journey
How to plan for your global experience
First things first: Make sure you have an up-to-date passport if traveling abroad. Beyond that, use this page as a step-by-step guide to navigate the process. And if you need additional support, we’re here to help along the way.
- Gather information
- Ask yourself who you are – and who you want to become – with this questionnaire that dives into academic, cultural, personal, and professional goals. Learn about your options by attending informational sessions, chatting with Global Ambassadors, and requesting an advising appointment with the GEC staff.
- Research programs and plan your course
- Search for programs that support your goals and graduation plan, see where you can earn credit toward graduation requirements, and use the Transfer Articulation Table to get a sense of which programs offer specific courses. After this, you should have an exciting shortlist of programs.
- Select and apply for a program
- Time to select your program! Visit your program’s brochure page and click “Apply now.” Read and follow the application instructions, then submit all required items by the deadline.
- Plan and prepare to leave
- Attend your mandatory orientation, which will address issues of academic, cultural, logistical, financial, personal preparation, and health and safety. In the meantime, set yourself up for the most enriching experience possible by learning about your new host culture.
- Study away
- Lean into your time away to immerse yourself in a different culture, open yourself up to new experiences, expand your world views and have fun!
- Re-entry
- Continue your global experience by becoming a Global Ambassador, attending conferences, joining a student club, presenting your research, and more.
