About the School of Health Sciences
Welcome to Elon’s School of Health Sciences
Elon’s School of Health Sciences includes three academic departments – the Department of Physical Therapy Education (DPTE), the Department of Physician Assistant Studies (DPAS) and the Department of Nursing.
The School of Health Sciences is a vibrant learning community dedicated to creating innovative and engaging learning opportunities. The Dean of the School of Health Sciences works closely with the leadership team to align activities both inside and outside the classroom, connecting students with the rich opportunities and resources available at Elon University. Faculty and staff ensure that students are both challenged and supported, collaborating across departments to create coursework, experiences and relationships that will serve our students well into their careers in healthcare.
The mission of Elon University’s School of Health Sciences is to develop dedicated and empathetic healthcare professionals through experiential and engaged learning. We will be recognized for scholarly and clinical excellence and for creating a positive impact in our local and global communities.
The School of Health Sciences is located in the Francis Center, which currently includes over 50,000 square feet of interprofessional learning spaces including classrooms, skills labs and research spaces. Students enjoy access to a fitness center, locker rooms, study and practice rooms, and common areas to support their needs between classes, in the evenings and on weekends. The Francis Center is undergoing a major renovation, including an expansion that will result in a total of 100,000 square feet of space for the school’s three programs. Among the new additions completed in spring 2022 is a suite with augmented, virtual and and mixed reality technology, opening the door to a new a world in the education of health care practitioners. The new technology allows instructors to develop complete scenarios in low-stake environments for students to practice and grow confidence and skills in high-pressure situations. A dedicated student entrance, re-imagined common spaces to encourage collaboration, new classrooms, skills labs and group study rooms are part of the renovations to be completed fall 2023. The last phase of the expansion, which will be completed summer 2024, will add offices for nursing faculty.
