Philosophy Statement
A note to all who are considering registering with the Anatomical Gift Program at Elon University
Teaching and learning are at the heart of education, where one’s curiosity helps drive the search for answers. At its most potent, education is delivered with knowledge and carefully researched information without judgment and with compassion, openness, and acceptance. Our exploration should be unbounded but never irresponsible, pursued with a genuine desire to discover the mysteries of the universe and all living things. Hopefully, the result will be a firmly held belief in the intrinsic value of all life. These beliefs sustain the Elon University Anatomical Gift Program and are fundamental to our human donor program. Every silent teacher offers the student a rare, unique, and honorable gift. Every student learns to inquire with respect, an open mind, a compassionate heart, and an attitude of thankfulness for such a remarkable gift.
With this philosophy and commitment at our core, and with awareness of the everchanging needs and interests of our society and culture, the Anatomical Gift Program General Information and Consent Form and the Health History Questionnaire are vital to the teaching process. We ask questions and seek information vital to a student’s understanding of the uniqueness of the individual donor and their life health journey. If there is any question or section of these forms that you would like to understand more fully, please feel free to call (336) 278-6564. We seek only to enable our donors to be the best teachers and our students to be taught with the most information possible as they explore the miracle of the human body. Thank you for approaching these forms with this understanding in mind. Thank you, indeed, for making this most precious of gifts.
We are grateful for your interest in our program. Know that you will be treated with dignity, compassion, and respect.
Sincerely,
The Anatomical Gift Program
