Information for Preceptors

The Department of Physician Assistant Studies at Elon University appreciates you visiting the Preceptor Web page. We hope you find the information helpful and encourage you to contact us regarding your precepting interests.

There are more than 4,000 physician assistants working in North Carolina. We anticipate the need for more primary care practitioners will continue. Elon University’s Department of Physician Assistant Studies is a 24-month program consisting of 12 months of didactic instruction and 12 months of clinical rotations. Students will rotate through 7 core clinical education experiences consisting of 6-week rotations in Adult Primary Care, Pediatrics, Emergency Medicine, Inpatient Medicine and Surgery and 3-week rotations in Women’s Health and Behavioral Medicine. In addition they will have one 6-week rotation in an elective of their choosing. We hope you will consider precepting students in your practice for their clinical rotations component.

Our Medical Directors are internists Andy Lamb of Burlington and Valerie Leschber of Greensboro. Drs. Lamb and Leschber are enthusiastic supporters of our program and are available to be liaisons for the medical community. Our office is ready to assist you in preparing for, working with and evaluating students.

We have many resources available on this Web page including information about becoming an Elon University Community Preceptor, forms current preceptors need and tips for precepting students. Feel free to contact us with any questions you may have.
