Overview

We offer 12 weekly sessions in the fall semester and 12 weekly sessions in the spring semester. Our classes are held in person in Johnston Hall, on Elon University’s south campus.

These rich programs are two hours long and they take place on Tuesdays at 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., and Wednesdays at 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. There is a break halfway through each class and a time for questions with the presenters.

Topics are chosen by the participants through the volunteer curriculum committee. The program draws upon the best of Elon’s present and former faculty and staff as well as talent from the community and area institutions.

Membership Fee: Yearly dues are $160 for the in-person classes. The membership fee is for the academic year, per person, regardless of what point in the year the membership starts or how many classes are attended. Please note that dues are non-refundable after the start of the first class in the fall.

We think of dues—first and foremost—as entry into a learning community.

Membership includes

  • A rich menu of 24 sessions over the Fall and Spring semesters
  • Book Clubs and Special Interest Groups (some additional cost may be required for the SIGS)
  • Discounted and complimentary tickets to several University events each semester
  • Free parking at Johnston Hall on class days
  • Borrowing privileges at Elon University’s Belk Library

Testimonials

We have attended LIFE@Elon classes since the program’s inception. We have been amused, enlightened and elated at the variety and depth of the programs. We believe in lifelong learning. The LIFE@Elon program fits the bill.

Husband and wife; members for thirteen years

We have so enjoyed the lectures at LIFE@Elon. Retirement really does allow us to expand our horizons and take part in lectures from such a broad array of fine speakers. From learning about the North Carolina wine industry, to learning about jazz improvisation, to hearing Dr. Danieley and his wonderful tales of Elon’s history. We especially enjoyed hearing how he has lunch with a different freshman chemistry student each day! Elon is so open to the senior citizens in the community, and we appreciate the kindnesses shown.

Husband and wife; eight year members in the Wednesday class

What a wonderful idea to have LIFE@Elon, I have thoroughly enjoyed most of the sessions! The opportunity to meet new individuals who have moved to the immediate area from all over the United States, has also been a positive part of the class. Certainly there was much thought in planning this program. Thanks to everyone who has helped to make this an enjoyable day in the week for a retired individual.

Elon Alumna; member for eleven years

LIFE@Elon is a pleasant, interesting, and educational event each week!
