Loy Center Neighborhood
Welcome to Loy Center
The Loy Center is a residential community that connects students’ fraternity/sorority involvement with their living arrangements in a way that builds strong relationships. The common rooms are used daily for chapter-related activities, study groups, and general community building. Programs and events in the neighborhood often bring in upper-level students and the greater Greek community to foster a strong sense of belonging.
Loy Center Neighborhood consists of 192 students living in our three styles of on-campus fraternity and sorority housing. The Loy Center is part of Elon University’s Residential Community. Students who live in a chapter facility are to follow the same guidelines as students in our traditional residence halls. In addition to the university housing guidelines, students are held to the Fraternity and Sorority Housing Agreement and Policies, as well as individual chapter’s policies regarding the living facility. Elon is proud to house our Greek-lettered organizations on campus, building a safe and thriving community on the Elon campus.
The House Managers are students who serve as live-in resident assistants for their chapter and are an extremely important part of the overall operation of the housing facilities. Reporting to the Associate Director of Residential Education and Community Development, the House Managers participate in a two-day interview process consisting of group and individual interviews, and one House Manager per chapter is selected by the Associate Director of Residential Education and Community Development in consultation with the Residence Life team. For more information about what being a House Manager means, please view the job description here.
Elon University owns the houses in Loy Center, and the chapters that occupy the buildings must sign a ten-month use agreement each year. Every three years, all chapters at Elon University are eligible to apply for housing.
Each facility has the following amenities:
- Air conditioning
- Kitchen with dishwasher, stove, and refrigerator
- Great room
- Washer and dryer
- Furniture: Extra-long twin bed (unless provided differently by individual chapters), wardrobe or dresser, and a desk with chair.
Signature Programs/Traditions/Experiences
Events such as the Welcome Back Picnic, Trick or Treat on Greek Street, Loy Center Olympics, the New Member Welcome, and the End of Year Celebration are annual events that engage the residents of the Loy Center Neighborhood and members of the fraternity and sorority community. Each year, new neighborhood programming is introduced to the Loy Center Neighborhood with the goal of creating programs that develop students’ leadership skills, self-understanding, social connections, and understanding of the experiences of others.
