If you are interested in becoming a consultant in the Writing Center, start by registering for ENG 3090: Writing Center Workshop, taught by the Writing Center Director Dr. Julia Bleakney. During the course,  “consultants-in-training” practice consulting for two hours per week in the Writing Center while studying writing across the disciplines, writing in different genres, and strategies for helping writers understand different rhetorical situations and for producing more effective writing. After completing the class successfully, students are then eligible to apply to work for pay in The Writing Center. Once hired, Consultants have additional opportunities to get involved with The Writing Center, including serving as a Lead consultant, co-running workshops with the Director or for fellow consultants, and undertaking research related to writing at Elon or beyond.

The Writing Center welcomes consultants from across campus and from all different disciplines! One of the best ways to become a more effective writer is to learn how writing is different in contexts and to help others with their own writing. So if you love writing and like working with your peers on writing, contact the Writing Center Director for more information about becoming a consultant.
