An unprecedented university commitment to diversity and global engagement

  1. Develop the Center for Access and Success at Elon including the Watson and Odyssey programs, the Elon Academy and the Village Project, to support limited income and first-generation students.
  2. Finalize a strategy to assure that 100% of Elon students have access to a global experience either domestically or abroad.
  3. Continue development of Study USA programs, conducting a successful search for a director and creating proposals for expansion of programming.
  4. Develop more robust civic engagement curricular and co-curricular experiences for students to learn and practice the skills and habits of democratic citizenship, including dialogues and public debates on campus, political and social issues.
  5. Enhance programs and action plans to support Black/African American, Gender and LGBTQ, Hispanic/Latino/a, multiracial and emerging demographic groups on campus.
  6. Continue work with Interfaith Youth Core (IFYC) to expand the student interfaith leadership program, develop assessment tools, and further develop the Center for the Study of Religion, Culture and Society through a search for a director.
  7. Develop and implement a new international recruitment strategic plan to increase the number of international students at Elon.
  8. Implement the Vendor Policy Committee recommendations regarding policies related to vendors and contractors.

Supporting a world-class faculty and staff

  1. Set and publicize a specific timeline and targets for the faculty/staff salary plan.
  2. Celebrate and market the expertise and talents of Elon’s world-class faculty and staff through on-campus displays, online communications and videos, targeted outreach to news media, mailings to other universities and frequent features in the university’s communications channels.
  3. Conduct and successfully complete the search for the Dean of the School of Law, Assistant Vice President for Student Life, Director and Associate/Assistant Directors of the Multicultural Center, Director of Annual Giving and Parent Programs, and Director of Alumni Engagement.
  4. Develop and implement a plan for providing leadership for the School of Education.
  5. Develop a new Instructional and Campus Technologies four-year strategic plan

Attaining the highest levels of achievement across our academic and student life programs

  1. Finalize and begin the implementation of the strategic plan for the School of Law.
  2. Develop a proposal for enhancing academic challenge and the intellectual environment on campus, including exploration of double majors and dual degrees, campus spaces, residential campus programing, scholarly talks, curriculum, and pedagogy.
  3. Launch the Center for Engaged Learning and key year-one initiatives, including the International Society for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (ISSOTL) conference, Writing Transfer conference, and the third Elon Research Seminar on Undergraduate Research Mentoring.
  4. Implement year-one of the Writing Excellence Initiative.
  5. Enroll 1,450 first-year students reflecting Elon values, especially academic ability, diversity, and a well-rounded high school experience that fits Elon’s style of engaged learning. The majority of these students will fall within a total SAT range of 1730 – 1950 with an average SAT of 1820.
  6. Formulate a strategy to incorporate emerging teaching and learning technologies in support of Elon’s commitment to engaged learning, including flipped, blended, and online courses.
  7. Conduct a feasibility study for adopting the Common Application to include evaluation of technology, application deadlines, and application review process.
  8. Enroll new students in each graduate program to meet the following goals:
    1. PA: Enroll 36 students January 2014 & 2015.
    2. DPT: Enroll 44 students January 2014 & 2015.
    3. M.Ed.: Enroll 21 students summer 2014.
    4. M.A. iMedia: Enroll 36 students summer 2014.
    5. MBA: Enroll 55 students in AY 2013-14.
  9. Prepare the university for a fall 2014 launch of a fully integrated residential and academic experience.
    1. Assess pilot of residential-academic neighborhood plans.
    2. Craft communications plan to support the new residential campus.
    3. Assess the impact of increased faculty and staff member engagement within residential neighborhoods, including the new faculty affiliates program.
  10. Implement new leadership programs that expand student leadership opportunities and deepen academic connections and experiences. Create a new leadership prize to support juniors who engage in mentored leadership research/projects.
  11. Celebrate Elon’s 125th anniversary with special events and communications designed to build pride, educate the community about the university’s rich history, and reinforce community spirit and aspirations for Elon’s future.
  12. Create a comprehensive university social media policy and support operations of Elon’s many department and program social media platforms.

Launching strategic and innovative pathways in undergraduate and graduate education

  1. Develop proposals for new Love School of Business programs, including MS in Business Analytics, MS in International Business, and a hybrid MBA.
  2. Lead campus conversations on development of additional graduate programs within the context of the Elon Commitment strategic plan.

Stewarding Elon’s commitment to remain a best-value university

  1. Meet the following fundraising targets:
    1. Raise $1.6 million in gifts toward Elon’s Greatest Needs.
    2. Raise $2.4 million in designated annual gifts including:
      1. $225,000 for Elon College, the College of Arts and Sciences
      2. $200,000 for the Love School of Business
      3. $75,000 for the School of Communications
      4. $30,000 for the School of Education
      5. $25,000 for the School of Health Sciences
      6. $400,000 for the Elon Academy
    3. Raise $450,000 in unrestricted annual scholarship funds and $200,000 in restricted funds in support of the Elon School of Law.
  2. Raise $500,000 as a challenge gift for the Phoenix Club to be used over a five-year period to raise the base level of giving from $1 million to $1.5 million in five years.
  3. Integrate Elon’s “Impact & Value” message into a wide range of university communications, including a new Elon.edu homepage, a new admissions website, an enhanced Magazine of Elon, and print publications/mailings for admissions, advancement and academic programs.

Developing innovative alumni programs to advance and support the Elon graduate

  1. Successfully execute the third year of the Building a Vibrant Alumni Network plan, including the deployment of alumni engagement officers, the expansion of Elon’s professional network to 7,500 members, roll-out of the alumni video, creation of the inaugural report of alumni engagement and continued development of alumni class reunions.
  2. Dedicate and open the Martin Alumni Center (MAC) in fall 2013 and develop a new welcome experience for alumni and their families.

Establishing a national tournament tradition of athletics success along with the highest academic standards for Phoenix athletics

  1. Develop and implement a comprehensive plan (communications, recruiting, travel, etc.) to prepare to enter the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) in 2014.
  2. Continue advancement of Elon’s gender equity commitment by successfully implementing the first season of competition for women’s lacrosse, adding three scholarships for women’s lacrosse, adding one scholarship per year for the next three years to completely fund women’s sports, and completing phase II of Hunt Softball Park.

Significantly enhancing Elon’s campus with premier new academic and residential facilities and a commitment to protecting our environment

  1. Plan and launch the School of Communications fundraising campaign.
  2. Complete fundraising for the Inman Admissions Welcome Center.
  3. Enhance the facilities plan for the residential campus by exploring options for multipurpose facilities for recreation and student activities, and improvements to housing in the Historic, Danieley, and Loy neighborhoods.
  4. Support progress toward Sustainability Master Plan and Climate Action Plan implementation:
    1. Conduct FY 2013 Green House Gas (GHG) inventory.
    2. Submit for an updated Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System (STARS) rating.
    3. Conduct assessment to gauge campus attitudes and behaviors toward sustainability and develop clear messaging for the Office of Sustainability.
    4. Increase the information available in all dining locations and online (website, smart phone app, etc.) about Elon Dining Services’ sustainable purchasing efforts and expand food labeling efforts.
    5. Install solar farm at Elon University Environmental Center.
