Inauguration participant information
Thank you for participating in the inauguration of President Connie Ledoux Book
Delegates representing scores of colleges and universities were on hand for the historic inauguration of Elon University’s ninth president. They were joined by alumni representing Elon graduating classes. Elon thanks these individuals for attending the inauguration and adding to the spirit and ceremony of these historic events.

We are very excited to have you participate in the Inauguration ceremonies as a representative of your distinguished institution. The following information is a general overview of the events and logistics for the day. Getting to Elon: Special maps will guide you to the Elon campus and reserved parking. GPS address is 542 N. Williamson Ave., Elon, NC. (Driving directions to Elon Inauguration, Elon Inauguration campus map)
Parking: Reserved parking will be held for college and university delegates at the Schar Center back lower parking lot convenient to the delegates’ entrance into the center. Security personnel and signs will be there to direct you. Accessible parking is available for those who need it. Refer to the Inauguration campus map.
Campus transportation: Shuttle service will run on a continuous loop beginning at 8:30 a.m. between Schar Center and the Moseley Student Center. Student hosts will be at the shuttle stop to assist you.
Delegate tours: Inauguration delegates and their guests are invited to tour the Elon campus on the morning of Oct. 18. Walking tours will leave from the Inman Admissions Welcome Center and last approximately 45 minutes. Please click on the link below if you are interested in joining a tour of campus.
Delegate luncheon: All delegates and guests are invited to join Provost Steven D. House for a private luncheon prior to the ceremony. The luncheon will be held in McKinnon Hall in the Moseley Student Center beginning at 12:30 p.m. Please contact Ms. Ent with any special dietary requirements. Transportation will be provided back to Schar Center at the conclusion of the lunch.
Robing: A secure room will be provided for robing and personal belongings that will be staffed during all inauguration events. The robing will be in the Maurice J. Koury Practice Facility located on the ground level of Schar Center. (Use the designated ground level entrance.) The room will open at 10:00 a.m.
Academic attire: All delegates in the academic procession are expected to wear academic attire. If you do not have a cap and gown, please contact the school or organization you are representing so that they may provide you with the necessary academic regalia.
Inauguration ceremony: Robing will begin at 2:00 p.m. Each delegate will have an assigned position in the procession according to the year of founding of his/her institution. We ask that you be robed no later than 2:15 p.m. so that we can assure the appropriate order of the procession. Elon University staff members will be available to assist you.
The Inaugural Procession will form at 2:30 p.m. and begin the processional at 3:00 p.m. We anticipate the ceremony concluding at 4:30 p.m.
Campus-wide Reception: Following the ceremony, we invite all guests to join us at a community celebration located at the Great Hall in the Global Commons. Transportation will be provided from Schar Center to the Great Hall located across the street.

For alumni participants in the Long Maroon Line

Parking: All visitors to the Elon campus for Inauguration may park at the Schar Center or at designated visitor lots at McMichael Science Center on North O’Kelly Avenue and The Oaks residential neighborhood, which can be found on the Inauguration campus map.
Shuttle Service: Shuttle bus service will be available to transport alumni from parking at Schar Center to various campus venues. Look for the shuttle stop near the front entrance to Schar Center.
Campus tours: Alumni are invited to tour the Elon campus on the morning of Oct. 18. Walking tours will leave from the Inman Admissions Welcome Center every 30 minutes from 9 a.m. through 11 a.m.
Alumni luncheon: Alumni are invited to a complimentary luncheon hosted by Vice President for University Advancement Jim Piatt at 12:30 p.m. in the McBride Gathering Space of the Numen Lumen Pavilion, located in the Lambert Academic Village.
Inauguration ceremony: Alumni must assemble in the Maurice J. Koury Practice Facility of Schar Center by 2:00 p.m. (Use the designated ground level entrance.) Maroon robes and special commemorative medallions (yours to keep) will be available there for all participants. You will receive instructions prior to the ceremony and will process into the arena to reserved seating.
Following the ceremony: Immediately following the inauguration ceremony, alumni are invited to attend a campus-wide celebration in the Great Hall of the Global Neighborhood Commons Building. The celebration will include refreshments, music and the opportunity to meet Elon students, faculty and staff.
