Sophomores – Danieley Center Neighborhood

Danieley Center is an excellent location for sophomores because it allows them to live in small groups of their choosing, allows students to live slightly further from central campus services, provides for greater independence through kitchenettes and living rooms in flats as well as apartment style living for others, can provide great outdoor activity spaces with Lake Verona and other outdoor features/amenities, and still includes the centralized commons building with quality services.

The neighborhood will provide students both space and opportunities to explore their future and reflect on their own aspirations. The support of a number of academic and student life departments will be imperative. Neighborhood destinations could include a fitness facility, space for small gatherings and concerts, lawns possibly replacing some of the current asphalt, lakeside spaces with seating and grilling spaces.

In Danieley Center sophomores will:

  1. live in small groups of their choosing just outside the core of campus
  2. experience greater independence through kitchenettes and living rooms in flats as well as apartment style living for others
  3. enjoy great outdoor activity spaces and recreation spaces
  4. utilize the centralized commons building with quality services
  5. find the support of a number of academic and student life departments.

Renovation plans envision possible additional indoor and outdoor common/recreation areas, fitness spaces, expanded common space (and services) in the Daniel Commons, faculty-in-residence apartments, as well as some refurbishing of the flats and apartments.

danieley centerThe program in Danieley Center focuses on two areas: community and exploration. The community aspect of the program refers to extending the culture of the intellectually engaged, connected, and caring community established during the first year. Rising sophomores will be able to determine their housing group and decide on a theme for their group. Student groups applying to live in theme units will be allowed to apply first and may apply for groups of 1-4 flats together.
