Learn: Innovative Teaching and Learning in an Era of Opportunity
Through the work of the ACE Learner Lab Grant, research and lay groundwork for the mentoring model outlined in the LEARN theme of Boldly Elon, in which students will learn to build developmental networks that include faculty, staff, and peers, as well as others beyond the university.
Identify characteristics and practices that characterize high-quality, diverse mentoring constellations;
Develop evidence-based definitions of mentoring and key terms relevant to the model;
Begin designing faculty, staff, and student development opportunities for high-quality mentoring; and
Initiate the development of a plan that ensures a sustained, high-quality program and reflects the university’s strategic commitment to mentoring as a defining element of Elon’s future.
Continue to advance the Elon Core Curriculum:
Develop a plan for student learning assessment in the Elon Core Curriculum using the new student learning outcomes to provide actionable information on educational quality and communicates to students the integrative nature of the curriculum
Finalize plans for the Studies in Structural Inequalities (SSI) requirement including:
criteria and process for designating courses
student learning outcomes,
number of courses needed
Identifying and developing professional development opportunities.
Explore the development of programs that match Elon’s educational model and commitments.
Draft a white paper on the role and advancement of graduate programs at Elon over the next nine years of the Boldly Elon plan.
Explore and assess the feasibility of additional 3+1 programs and identify where these efforts can be collaborative across schools and colleges.
Complete feasibility study for master’s-level health sciences/nursing program.
Further develop the Master of Clinical Informatics Program.
Implement and deepen the accelerated and four-year nursing programs (Bachelor of Science in Nursing – BSN).
Identify and incorporate lessons learned during the pandemic that support Elon’s model of engaged relational education.
Leverage the new skills, pedagogies, and assessment methods adopted during the pandemic to further enhance engaged, inclusive, and experiential teaching and learning on a residential campus.
Survey faculty to discover effectiveness of new approaches to teaching and engaged learning adopted during the pandemic, including pedagogies and technologies that have potential for continued use to support Elon’s distinctive model
Identify areas for continued exploration, growth, and refinement to inform short- and long-term faculty development planning and investment
Incorporate findings into the implementation of the Technology Plan and the development of the next CATL 5-year plan
Assess the curriculum to identify existing coursework focused on advancing data literacy and identifying gaps/opportunities. Consider and begin developing structures (definitions, learning outcomes, etc.) that are necessary to support the advancement of data competency across the curriculum.
Plan programming that supports student and faculty engagement that will be housed in IQ-1 & IQ-2.
Assess existing international partnerships and explore developing new partnerships that support the development of second language acquisition.
Prepare to successfully attain university, school, and program accreditations.
Continue self-study for the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET)
Begin the self-study for the Commission on Sport Management Accreditation (COSMA)
Continue the self-study for the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP)
Planning for the SACSCOC decennial review.
Thrive: An Inclusive and Healthy Community for Success
Continue robust efforts to make Elon a more diverse, inclusive, and culturally skilled community.
Develop and initiate a plan for promoting the Diversity Course Database’s use in course advising and programming related to inclusive excellence.
Commence the Asian and Pacific Islander Task Force to examine the experiences of people from East Asian, Middle East Asian, South Asian, Southeast Asian, and Pacific Island descent at Elon and recommend practices that build community and empowerment within the Asian and Pacific Islander community.
Develop new DEI focused approaches to First-Year Forums, the common reading, and learning modules for the Core Curriculum.
Implement programs to support an integrated Teacher-Scholar-Mentor development model that works across the span of a faculty career and responds to the distinct challenges and opportunities of different career stages.
Execute the plan proposed by the Taskforce on Department Chairs, including recommendations to improve writing effective evaluations of teaching faculty (Unit III).
Develop an overarching web-based resource to consolidate and share information and support for faculty growth and professional development as Teacher-Scholar-Mentors across career stages.
Implement recommendations from the Council on Wellness and Well-Being focusing on all stakeholders, students, staff, and faculty.
Develop an updated ten-year vision and implementation plan for enhancing the student residential experience and academic-residential partnerships.
Explore extended orientation or connection program for faculty in years 1-3 supporting the development of strategies for:
Connecting with the community
Prioritizing faculty roles and expectations for success
Balancing work expectations and personal life
Clarify and enhance hiring protocols, onboarding procedures, orientation programming for limited-term and part-time faculty, and extend these opportunities to those hired during the pandemic.

Assess campus efforts designed to promote civic engagement, political discourse, and active citizenship.
Assess student skills and needs to develop approaches that support the goal, “every student to participate in community and civic engagement, gaining community engagement skills and an understanding of their civic responsibilities”.
Design and implement ongoing programming that promotes civic engagement, political discourse, and active citizenship, and connects those constructs to daily life.
Explore and develop connections between ElonNext, Life@Elon, SPDC, and alumni engagement that support connections with various audiences (ex. Elon alumni, the local community, etc.).
Explore and develop collaborative 2+2 programs.
Bachelor of Science in Nursing with Alamance Community College (ACC).
Teacher Education Pipeline Initiative with Alamance Burlington School System (ABSS).
Identify and explore additional 2+2 pipeline opportunities that may exist that can be developed collaboratively.
RISE: Positioning the University for the Future
Identify and develop the next University Quality Enhancement Plan as part of the decennial Southern Association SACSCOC review.
Identify critical educational transitions in new undergraduate and graduate programs (e.g. orientation, field/clinical placements, graduation, etc.) and develop strategies to support students through those transitional stages.
In conjunction with the School of Communications, Love School of Business, and Office of Admissions, utilize market research to develop new and expanded marketing strategies to bolster application pools sufficient to increase enrollment for the M.A. in Interactive Media, MBA, and other graduate programs.
Complete IQ-1 and IQ-2.
Assess and create a master plan for McMichael renovation to support STEM programs.
Complete phase 2 & planning for phase 3 of Francis Center to support nursing and other health sciences programs.
Explore the feasibility and/or plan for hybrid JD, Masters, and certificate programs in Law and other academic programs to be operated in Charlotte.
Assess and identify new peer and aspirant institutions.
