Elon University Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs Rebecca Kohn

The Provost’s Report celebrates the many accomplishments of Elon’s outstanding faculty and staff. This year’s report highlights the strong record of scholarship and creative activity generated by Elon faculty, especially around health and well-being. As active members of the academy, faculty participate in professional activities that keep them current and enlarge the intellectual, creative, and practical opportunities available to our students. For more than twenty years, the Elon Teacher-Scholar statement has been at the forefront of that work, to both guide and recognize the myriad ways Elon teacher-scholars dedicate their talents, experiences, and leadership skills to activities that sustain, develop, and improve the entire institution.

This year our faculty produced over 220 books, articles, and book chapters, nearly 50 films artistic exhibitions, and performances, and over 375 scholarly presentations. Also in 2023, 22 new grants were awarded to Elon staff and faculty, bringing our total number of ongoing grants to 40.

The faculty scholarship represented in this publication are all prime examples of how Elon faculty bring together their scholarly passions with a commitment to mentoring. From this commitment, the university has emerged as a national leader in engaged learning. In fact, for the third year in a row, Elon ranks number one for excellence in undergraduate teaching by U.S. News and World Report. Elon is also ranked for the ninth consecutive year among the top twenty institutions in all eight categories tied to student success and academic excellence. Our success as an institution is attributable to the university’s commitment to continue building upon our relationship-rich model within higher education.

I am thankful to each of you for creating such welcoming and engaged spaces where our students can continue to thrive, learn, and grow and for your constant pursuit to be the very best.
